What colour can a diamond created from pet ashes be? Laboratory memorial diamonds are available in three colour families: Colourless/White (gemological scale D–F, maximum transparency), Champagne/Yellow (warm golden hue) and Blue (boron integrated in the crystalline structure generates an extraordinarily rare bluish tone). The exact variations depend on the unique elements of each sample.

It is not an imitation. It is not cubic zirconia, moissanite or glass. It is carbon crystallised in cubic structure, exactly the same as that extracted from the earth. It has the same hardness (10 Mohs), the same refractive index (2.42) and the same optical properties as a natural diamond.

No gemologist can distinguish it visually. The difference is only detectable with specialised equipment and is documented in the IGI certificate that accompanies each piece. It is precisely its origin — the carbon from your pet — that makes it something extraordinary.

CARATS & SIZE

The carat (ct) is the unit of weight for diamonds. The higher the carat weight, the larger the visible size, but the relationship is not proportional: a 1 ct diamond is not twice the size of a 0.50 ct. This table shows approximate measurements for the round brilliant cut.

It is pure crystallised carbon with 10/10 Mohs hardness, certified by the IGI with laser inscription. Available in 8 cuts and 3 colours. Price from €3,500 (0.25 ct). Timeframe: 6–10 months. What is the difference between a memorial diamond and a memorial sapphire or ruby? The diamond is based on carbon from the sample, has 10 Mohs hardness, colourless/champagne/blue colours, ~9 months timeframe and price from €3,500. Sapphires and rubies integrate up to 10 elements from the sample into corundum (Al₂O₃), 9 Mohs hardness, offer more intense colours (blue, red, pink), ~2 months timeframe and more accessible price. Both options are real certified laboratory gemstones.

Pet ash diamonds in Spain: what you need to know

Sakti Atelier is a Spanish atelier specialising in commemorative jewellery for pets. We transform your dog's, cat's or other pet's ashes or fur into a real laboratory diamond, certified by the IGI (International Gemological Institute).

The process uses HPHT (High Pressure, High Temperature), technology, which replicates natural mantle conditions. The carbon extracted from the sample is purified and used as a seed for controlled crystalline growth. The result is a diamond with exactly the same properties as a natural diamond: pure carbon, 10 Mohs hardness, refractive index 2.42.

Diamonds are available in 3 colours (colourless D–F, champagne/yellow, blue) and 8 jewellery cuts (round brilliant, princess, oval, heart, cushion, pear, emerald, marquise). The price starts from €3,500 for 0.25 carats and includes the complete process, IGI certificate, jewellery creation and insured shipping. The timeframe varies from 6 to 10 months depending on size.

The entire process is traceable and documented: the client receives photographic updates at each stage and personalised 1:1 support. It is also possible to create a diamond from living pet fur (300 g), allowing you to have the memorial jewellery even before saying goodbye.

Is an ash diamond a real diamond?

Yes. A laboratory diamond created from pet ashes is a real diamond in every scientific and gemological sense. It has the same chemical composition (pure carbon crystallised in cubic structure), the same maximum hardness (10 on the Mohs scale), the same refractive index (2.42) and the same optical properties of brilliance and dispersion as a diamond extracted from the earth.

The difference from a natural diamond is not in the stone, but in its origin: it is created in a laboratory rather than in a mine. No gemologist can distinguish it visually from a natural diamond; the difference is only detectable with specialised equipment and is documented in the gemological certificate.

It should not be confused with imitations such as cubic zirconia (CZ) or moissanite, which are completely different materials. A laboratory diamond is, by definition, a diamond: the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) and the world's leading gemological institutions recognise it as such.

Every diamond includes a gemological certificate issued by the IGI (International Gemological Institute), one of the world's most recognised gemological institutions.
